Going live on WhatsApp Business is not a single button press. Across thirty days you weave through verification, opt-in flows, and quality scoring. Underestimate any one and you lose weeks. Below: the three traps that decide most go-lives, then a realistic week-by-week plan.

The first 30 days are an audition. Most failed go-lives lose time to the same four mistakes. Each trap below names what teams do wrong, what it costs, and what to do instead.
Teams sketch flows and write copy first. Business verification, phone-number registration, and display name approval get pushed to "later". Then the invisible walls hit. Credit cards will not attach. Phone numbers will not release. Template approvals stall. Meta rarely says why; it just blocks. Submit business verification on day one. The form itself takes minutes, the review runs in the background while you build. And: the 30-day clock for your blue check (Official Business Account) only starts once your verified number is live on the platform with display name approved and two-step verification on. Verify late, get the badge late.

The classic mistake: gather a list of opt-ins for weeks, then run the first campaign. By then customers do not remember signing up. Some think it is spam. Reactions tank. Quality rating drops. Rate limits kick in. Meta's written rule is light: state the purpose, name your business, comply with local law. But the actual policing happens in how customers react after a message lands. So flip the order: have your campaign approved and the trigger wired up before you start collecting. The first template should fire while the customer is still on your page, in the same session. That same window decides your tier curve.

Stale opt-ins generate blocks; blocks cap your sending capacity for weeks.
Submit a utility template (an order update, an appointment reminder, an account notice) and there is a real chance Meta auto-categorises it as marketing. Marketing pricing is higher, and marketing templates expose customers to extra feedback prompts (thumbs-down, block) that drag your quality rating down. The trick: start from Meta's Template Library. The pre-built utility and authentication templates are already classified correctly. Adapt one of those instead of writing from scratch. The category sticks.

Higher per-message price plus higher block risk on every send of that template.
Sending volume is capped per number per day: 1K → 10K → 100K → unlimited. Meta moves you up when the quality of your messages is good. Quality is measured by the same signal that polices opt-in: how customers react. Strong reactions on the first 100 messages tier you up fast. Weak reactions hold you at a low tier for months. The first 100 matter more than the next 10,000. Pick your safest, highest-intent audience first. Prove engagement. Scale only after.

Map every business-initiated message to a category (utility, authentication, marketing). Where Meta has a Library template that fits your use case (order updates, payments, deliveries, OTPs), start there and adapt; the category sticks. Submit your first three for approval.

Meta auto-categorises and will demote a utility template to marketing if it reads marketing-y. Library starter templates already sit in the right category. Your own utility template with "special offer" language will not.

What happens
Wire your opt-in collection point (web form, checkout, signup) directly to the first template send. Test the trigger end-to-end with a real customer journey. The campaign must be live before you start collecting.
Where teams trip
Do not stockpile opt-ins for a future blast. Every minute between yes and the first message is friction in the customer’s memory and a higher block risk.

A real customer goes from yes to first WhatsApp message in under a minute. Quality rating: high.
What happens
Open the WhatsApp Manager metrics. Look at delivery, read, conversation, and quality rating. Identify which template earns its rate and which doesn’t. Plan the next batch.
Where teams trip
The tier you finish month one on shapes your sending capacity for months. Don’t panic-ramp on day 25. Boring volume with high quality wins; aggressive ramp gets stuck at low tier.
